Carlisle is situated in the far north west of England, close to the border with Scotland. It is a city steeped in history, originating in the many border disputes and skirmishes between the inhabitants of the borders of England and Scotland.

The city's history can be discovered by a visit to its Castle, Cathedral or the excellent Museum at Tullie House. However, many visitors simply go there for the fabulous new shopping centre.

Carlisle is built right next to the beautiful River Eden, but this has meant it has suffered dreadful floods in recent years - most notably in 2005, but also in many subsequent years.

VR Carlisle is your virtual tour guide to the City including Cumberland, Brampton, Longtown, The Cathedral, The Castle, Carlisle Station and the latest long range weather forecast.

Our photographer visited Carlisle in September, and captured panoramas of the Castle, Cathedral, The River Eden Bridge, shopping centre, the Crescent, Citadel Towers, Millennium Bridge, Tullie House Museum and other local views.
